Announcing Turnip Soup!

I’ve been talking about starting up a podcast for far too long…and the time has come to make good on that promise.

So, it’s with great fanfare that I announce our new podcast: Turnip Soup. Turnip Soup is a weekly podcast where my buddies and I will talk about the sorts of things that show up here on Turnipville (and occasionally something you might find at Martini Geek). In other words, we’re going to put our usual hilarious spin on odd news stories, sports, tech, and whatever else might pop up during the show.

We’ve set up a command center, of sorts, over at Turnip Network. There, you’ll find subscription links for all of your favorite podcatchers, including iTunes and Odeo.

We’ve also thrown some flash-based players in the mix so that you can listen to the latest show without having to download anything.

For your convenience, here are some quick links to get you into the fray.

  • Apple computers: itunes 1click subscribe
  • Windows: iTunes 1-click subscribe
  • Add Turnip Soup to ODEO
  • Add to Google
  • Subscribe in podnova

My GTD and Moleskine

It finally happened. I caved and bought a Moleskine.

I’d been reading about how fantastic they are for an awfully long time…but it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I happened upon a decent deal and picked up a couple.

I love it. Really.

The key here is that it’s part of my ongoing GTD implementation, and not all that novel.

You can find scores and scores of suggested hacks for using your Moleskine with GTD, and many of them are good. Most people suggest using tabs along the edges of your pages in order to create quick “folders” or action lists. There’s no doubt that this approach is the most practical, but I don’t want the tabs to get all jacked up when I carry the Moleskine in my pocket.

Therefore, I’m using those little colored circle stickers that you can get in packs of 200 at any random store. You can see one of them in the picture here. I’ve found that the trick here is to fold the stickers over the page edge so that there is a slight excess, and so the sticker fold forms a miniature “tab” that only protrudes away from the paper just slightly.

I’ve had minimal problem using these special “tabs” and carrying the book around in my back pocket. And as an added bonus, get this: you can store a sheet or two of unused stickers in your accordion file at the back…perfect for quick, on-the-fly list creation.

Fucking, Austria: A Real City

So I stumbled upon an interesting little tidbit over at snopes.com; there is a town in Austria called “Fucking.”

Evidently, their town signs are being ripped off left and right. It follows, I suppose, that people would want these signs. After all, having a huge sign in your house that says “Fucking” is probably a guy’s single greatest ticket to fame. But the one featured here is perhaps the most amusing, as the phrase below it (in German) reads “Please – not so fast!”

Given my heavy heart over this afternoon’s Chargers’ loss, I’m feeling particularly justified in stumbling around the net…and sharing my findings with you.

For those of you who are firing up your email client to send me hate mail for putting this word front and center on Turnipville, remember: I didn’t name the city. I’m just a bloggist.

Portrait of a Chargers Fan

Time to retire..

It kills me, but it’s time to retire the jersey, the undershirt, the hat, the gameday flag, the fake license plate, the hardhat (for when we’ve got to dig deep), and the plan-free Sundays…..until next season.

I’ve been here before – but I can’t recall it being this miserable. I love my Chargers.

I hate Sundays like this one; congrats, Pats.

Reptilian Sports Analysts

Reptile Men on ESPN

ESPN has, apparently, begun staffing their online video corps with lizard mutant men – as evidenced by this snapshot that I took last night. While I found his analysis to be a little underwhelming, it was incredibly impressive when you consider that it was probably developed while sunning on a rock.

I’ve always noticed that ESPN has been ahead of the pack in terms of diversity, but up until now it’s always been racial diversity; are we entering the era of special diversity?
