Natalie and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to kids’ birthday parties. Specifically, we disagree on the purpose of birthday parties for kids under the age of..let’s say…five years old.

See, I’m of the opinion that the only reason parents have birthday parties for their young children is to provide an excuse for parents of young kids to get together and drink beer.
Natalie thinks we have those parties for the kids.
My argument is pretty simple to grasp: my two-year-old daughter didn’t wake up excited this morning because we were going to Sophie’s party. In fact, she didn’t even realize we were at a party this afternoon. Sure, she had a good time…but it didn’t occur to her that the occasion was anything special.
Us parents, on the other hand, saw the party as a prime opportunity to drink some beer, throw the football around, and generally enjoy ourselves while the children played with one another.
Am I missing the boat?

You have the party and take lots of pictures-videos so when they are older they get the impression you cared enough to throw a party and drink beer with your friends. Or you invite people who don’t drink beer and serve punch… Spike mine please!
