Kids get it; wait, no they don’t…

As I sit here typing this, Kia is thumbing away on her Sidekick Slide. The sounds coming from the thing are absolutely horrible, and it’s because she’s texting four different friends at once. Four. We have (and these are my names/descriptions, not Danger’s):

  • “New Message” – a woman’s voice who lets you know that a new text has just arrived
  • “Dink dink” – the sound that comes from an individual letter/number key that’s been pressed during message composition
  • “Whoosh Up” – what happens when you slide the unit open
  • “Whoosh Down” – Whoosh Up’s cousin, who comes around when the unit is slid closed
  • “Fold Clickareeno” – click the back button, and enjoy the audio

I looked at her quickly and said, “Surely it’d be more convenient to have this conversation on the computer…like, in a group chat, or on IRC or something.”

She shook her head. “Nah, they’re not all at home. Some of them are out and about.”

“Okay, well why haven’t you guys given in and tried Twitter?”

“Ahhh…I don’t know. It’s just like, hard. I don’t want to have to get my friends to join, they’re gonna be like ‘ehh, I don’t want to have to sign up for that, yadda yadda.’”

“Be a trendsetter, Kia. They’ll follow you.”

“Nah, we all have unlimited texting. We’re getting our money’s worth.”

“Yah, but…fine. Just turn the sound off.”

“Okay, okay.”

*buzzzzz* *buzzzzzzzz*

/me sighs.

Mac to XBox 360 and Apple TV – No More DVDs!

I finally did it.

I will never burn another video DVD.

Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating, but there’s still something to be excited about. I’ve had an Apple TV for over a year, an XBox 360 for even longer, and a desire to watch all of my video content without physical media since before I was born. With the recent addition of Connect360 from NullRiver, I’m now able to stream video content from iTunes on my Mac, straight to my Xbox 360.

What’s more? The Apple TV format created by Handbrake works flawlessly on the XBox, allowing me to kill a bunch of birds with one very small rock.

So after sinking $20 into Connect360, $120 into a 750GB external drive just for movies, I’m officially ready to ditch every piece of physical media in my house.

Heh. Call me in a year…

Turnip Soup: Episode 13 – Sound Effect City

We’re “live” again, but this time we’ve got sound effects.

It’s Tim, Bryan, and Parker – welcoming Jerry to his first show. We’re giving DD a hard time still, but that’s because he’s just so much fun to tease. We cover Tim’s ticket, Rosie leaving the View, McCain singing the Beach Boys, and a bunch of quick stories.

If you don’t think Jerry’s laugh is infectious, you’re probably hopeless.

Vote for the show!

Merge…not Replace!

Dear Tim:

Be especially careful when upgrading your WordPress install; you’ll want to merge directories, not replace them.

If you accidentally replace them, you will probably lose your existing theme data, and all of the frustration with your previous (feature-laden) theme will manifest itself in the form of an extremely clean, lightweight theme.

, Best Regards
